World AIDS Day brought 500 people to the Monument of the Patria (Homeland) on the Paseo de Montejo on Dec.1. Meanwhile, in Isla Mujeres, a lighting of Town Hall, along with free HIV testing and a sex education workshop took place.

Both events were sponsored by Fundacíon BAI, the HIV/AIDS education and counseling non-profit organization based in Mérida.

“We at BAI are so proud of this collaborative effort that, after five months, is seeing light for the first time!” said BAI Director Carlos Cabrera.

A massive global awareness campaign, World AIDS Day was the first ever global health day, beginning in 1988.
