Cristobal left Yucatan a little parting gift on the way to Louisiana. And it explains the odd odor many residents noticed last night and this morning after the storm left.

No, it wasn’t overloaded septic systems or contaminated groundwater. Cristobal blew gaseous vapors from lagoons in the Peninsula’s north down to us, he said.

Meteorologist Juan Vázquez Montalvo theorized that the stench was delivered by the tail of the tropical storm. It created a foul wind from the north.

The odor is due to the west and northwest wind that creates Cristobal’s tail, he explained on local media.
