Merida, Yucatan — Military and police officers seized a marijuana garden Thursday after a neighbor complained about the illegal crop.

The location and size of the site was not disclosed, and no suspects or arrests were reported. Police cordoned off the field without incident.

Members of the State Coordination Committee for the Construction of Peace said a citizen complaint mobilized the Mexican Army, and municipal, state and federal police.

State Secretary General Maria Fritz Sierra, who was interim mayor of Merida while the future governor campaigned for office last year, thanked “all government levels and citizen participation” after “common goals and solutions were achieved jointly and immediately.”

The cannabis plants were in the process of production, with no evidence of a harvest being transported or marketed.
