In the state’s worst day yet in fighting COVID-19, 90 new coronavirus infections and 13 deaths were reported Friday by Yucatan health officials.
A 40-year-old man from Kanasín was the youngest to perish in the past 24 hours. He had a medical history of chronic liver disease. An 89-year-old Merida man was the oldest and suffered from hypertension. He lived with 5 people, one of whom had mild symptoms of COVID-19. The average age of the deceased was 65 and all but two had complications such as diabetes and hypertension. Seven of the 13 were males.
It was Yucatan’s toughest day in the coronavirus fight since May 21 when 80 new patients were added to the caseload and 11 died.
This brings to 351 the number of COVID-19 deaths in Yucatan since mid-March.
From the beginning, 2,910 people here have tested positive, with 2,228 recovering including 56 in the last 24 hours.
Existing patients are broken into two groups: the 145 in stable condition and allowed to recover at home, and the 186 in the hospital, four more than Thursday.
Of the new cases, 42 were found in residents of Merida; 11 in Muna; 10 In Valladolid; seven in Buctzotz; four in Kanasín; two in Hunucmá and one apiece in Akil, Cacalchén, Chemax, Chocholá, Dzemul, Hoctún, Motul, Oxkutzcab, Progreso, Samahil, Teabo, Ticul, Tixkokob and Tizimín.
