Merida, Yucatan — A new concert venue opens Friday, Jan. 25 with a pop concert featuring singer Carlos Rivera.

Rivera, who’s in the midst of his “Guerra Tour,” will be sharing the spotlight with the auditorium itself.

Part of the La Isla complex, the auditorium accommodates a seated audience of up to 3,100 people. Another 900 can fit if seats are cleared for a standing room. (By comparison, the Coliseo can handle 10,000 people.)

Another singer, Yahir, gave the concert hall a test run with a private performance on Nov. 30, but this is the first time the public has been invited to enjoy a show at La Isla auditorium.

The auditorium is divided into seven sections, with suites and boxes for VIP guests, said Fernando Erosa Barahona, manager of Auditorio La Isla.

Being smaller than a stadium means every seat has good sight lines to the stage, reported Diario de Yucatan. Each level has food and beverage service and bathrooms.

Elevators are available for the disabled, and to access the suites.

The manager said plays, dance shows and children’s shows will also be planned on the stage.

One play, a broad comedy called “EnParejaDos” with Adrián Uribe and Consuelo Duval, is set for Saturday, Feb. 16. The actors have toured the show in the United States.

Organizers plan to stage 40 events a year, an average of three to four per month.

Load Operadora de Entretenimiento (fiscal name of the auditorium), also offers the auditorium for events like the Feb. 23 coronation of the children and youth kings and queens for Merida’s Carnaval.

The auditorium has six dressing rooms, three singles and three for groups, as well as a green room where artists can meet with media and fans.

Rivera’s concert prices range from 1,900 pesos, for the Platinum Zone closest to the stage, and 350 pesos for the Green section.

After the La Isla stop, Rivera will take his tour to Mexico City and Madrid.
