New infections and deaths from COVID-19 have yet to decrease in Yucatan.
Six fatalities and 54 new infections were reported Saturday by health officials, adding up to 1,432 positive cases and 145 deaths, or roughly 10% of all patients.
Of the new cases, 27 were in Mérida, seven in Valladolid, four in Umán, two in Kanasín, Kaua and Ticul, in addition to one case each in Dzitás, Espita, Hocabá, Hunucmá, Seyé, Tekax, Tizimín, Tzucacab and Temax, which previously was considered coronavirus-free. An additional case came from outside either the state or country.
To date, 5,472 suspicious cases are reported of which 1,317 are from sentinel surveillance, which calculates a likely total based on available data. Of those, 923, or 64.45%, recovered, the same number as Friday.
The youngest to die was a 33-year-old man from Mérida who also had chronic kidney failure. The oldest was a 79-year-old man, with no known pre-existing conditions, from Tixkokob.
The total deaths so far is 145 people, representing 10 percent of confirmed cases.
Active cases include 241 patients quarantined at home and 123 in the hospital, three fewer than Friday. Hospital beds for patients with COVID-19 in Yucatan are at 19% capacity, while 29% of intensive care beds are currently in use, according to the health ministry.
The age range of the patients is from 4 months to 94 years.
Yucatan ranks seventh in Mexico for coronavirus cases; for COVID-19 deaths, the state ranks 11th with 47 for every million. For every 100 coronavirus tests administered, the health ministry say 33.6 are confirmed positive, ranking it 12th out of 32 states and Mexico City.
