Noche Blanca festival is revived, returning in December
Mérida, Yucatán — The 10th edition of Noche Blanca, a sweeping citywide cultural festival, will be Saturday, Dec. 8, the city administration announced.
“We are working on the programming, which is not ready yet,” said Irving Berlin Villafaña, the chief of the municipal cultural affairs department.
Noche Blanca has been staged twice a year, but June’s edition was canceled by the previous administration as officials prepared for the July 1 election. Three million pesos are allocated to the night of music, art and theater.
In 2017, the late fall Noche Blanca brought 147 events to 65 venues, including 31 art galleries and seven public parks.
Noche Blanca has become one of the most important cultural events in the city, one time attracting 350,000 people.
Events are both indoors and outdoors. A few outdoor events were postponed in summer 2017, including two outdoor concerts and a fashion show.
Past musical acts have been groups with small followings, or mainstream acts such as pop star Mario Bautista.
