Peninsular Classic series starts with a bang for Leones

Merida, Yucatan — Four home runs, including three consecutive ones in the sixth inning, gave the Leones a dramatic 7-2 win over the Piratas de Campeche.

Dustin Crenshaw pitched seven scoreless innings during Friday’s start to the Peninsular Classic series at Kukulcan Alamo Park.

Crenshaw (3-1) allowed four hits while striking out four to pick up the win.

Up 1-0, Yucatan batted around in the sixth inning, sending 11 batters to the plate and scoring six runs, including home runs by Art Charles, Xavier Scruggs and Sebastian Valle.

Opposing pitcher Frank Garces (5-10) took the loss after allowing one run and three hits in five innings. He also struck out five and walked three.

The second Peninsular Classic game is today (Saturday) at 5:45 p.m., with starting Piratas pitcher Héctor Galván (2-3, 5.71 ERA) and the Leones’ José Samayoa (7-4, 3.75 ERA).
