“Pop Ox,” Ari Lara’s second solo exhibit, is a mashup of pop art and Mexican-American culture.
The title of the exhibition is a play on words: popular culture and the prefix of the number three in Maya (ox-). She explains that we are living in the third wave of pop culture: where artistic creations enter the global market and are fetishized.
Lara’s colorful acrylic canvases are on view starting 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18 at Alma Calma Restaurant, Calle 60 and 49, Centro. Free entrance.
Lara is also a biochemistry engineer studying for an advanced degree at the Technological Institute of Mérida.
