Progreso, Yucatan — As part of the city’s 148th anniversary celebration, many free-to-the-public events are planned this weekend.

Physical activity is stressed today. A biciruta, or community bike ride, starts at 7 p.m. on the malecon. Meanwhile, the public is invited to a “macroclase” led by an exercise instructor.

“Velada Junto al Mar” (“Evening by the Sea”) also continues at 7 on Progreso’s Muelle de Chocolate, with music and food for the entire family.

Sunday starts early with the “Xtreme Race Beach 2019,” a 4.5-kilometer road race on the malecon at 7 a.m.

At the Parque de la Paz, a kite exhibition and a seafood fair will take place starting at noon.

The weekend winds down with another “Evening by the Sea” on the newly renovated pier.
