Izamal, Yucatan — Before noon on Sunday, open-air markets, supermarkets and shops were filled with shoppers, indicating a break with the stay-at-home warning from the governor.

The heart of this Magical Town looked like any other Sunday, despite the coronavirus health emergency, Diario de Yucatan reported.

Some went out with children, despite the recommendation that only one person go shopping and not let children or older adults tag along.

Mayor Fermín Sosa Lugo implored citizens to stay home and not take unnecessary errands.

“I want to ask the citizens … to stay in their homes,” said Sosa Lugo. “This is not the time to spend time with friends at home or to visit relatives. It is time to take care of yourself.”
