Quintana Roo ends Yucatan’s winning streak with 6-1 win

Merida, Yucatan — Snapping their four-game losing streak, the Tigres ended the Leones’ nine-game winning streak Saturday at Kukulcan Alamo Park.

Ruben Sosa hit a two-run single in the second inning, leading to Quintana’s Roo 6-1 win.

The Tigres later added three runs in the fourth and one in the ninth. In the fourth, Manuel Orduno hit a three-run home run. In the bottom of the fourth, the Leones responded with their only run, a two-out triple by Leo Heras that brought home Xavier Scruggs, who doubled ahead of him.

The Tigres’ Eric Aguilera scored on a fielder’s choice in the ninth.

Quintana Roo right-hander Wilfredo Boscan (7-3) picked up the win with a quality start after allowing one run on five hits over six innings. The Leones’ Yoanner Negrin (11-5) took the loss, only his fifth for the season, after allowing five runs and nine hits over six innings.

Starting 3 p.m. today (Sunday) the Leones will celebrate an Amateur Day festival. Fans can then stay to enjoy the last and deciding game of the series. Quintana Roo will send Henderson Alvarez (0-1, 16.20 ERA ) to the mound while the Leones’ Dustin Crenshaw (1-0, 0.75 ERA) will pitch his second start.
