Mérida, Yucatán — The city’s famous Sunday-morning community bike ride will launch a Saturday-night version this week.
Biciruta Nocturna will start at Calle 47 and head up the Paseo de Montejo to the Monumento a la Bandera.
The program will take place 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. the first Saturday of each month, and unlike the normal weekly Sunday Biciruta, where the east lane is closed off from cars, night cyclists will be given the west side of the Paseo.
Five events organized by the Department of Human Development will be staged along the three-kilometer circuit. There will also be bicycle rental and hydration stations at the beginning and at the end of the route.
