Mérida, Yucatán — More than 20,000 people — and a whole bunch of butterflies — are expected to visit the Fourth Environmental Expo Forum when it returns to the Siglo XXI Convention Center.

The expo, from May 11 to 13, seeks to promote sustainability and environmental responsibility by bringing together more than 100 companies and hosting a variety of workshops and talks.

Exhibits and activities will be of interest to green-minded entrepreneurs, students and families with children.

It is Organized by the Mérida branch of the National Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism (Canaco Servytur) and the state Secretariat of Urban Development and Environment (Seduma).

Prominent speakers, training courses and panel discussions are on the agenda, as is a slate of documentary films including  “An Inconvenient Truth 2,” presented by Al Gore, former vice president of the United States and Peace Nobel Prize winner.

The Secretariat of Research, Innovation and Higher Education will bring attractions such as a mariposario, or butterfly farm, a projection of videos in a planetary dome and a conference on the Chicxulub Crater.

Admission to La Expo Foro Ambiental is free; doors are open 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. each day.
