Phoning a friend gets easier in 2019.
All phone calls placed in Mexico, to either mobile phones or land lines, will take a uniform 10 digits, with no prefixes.
The change takes effect Aug. 3, 2019 to allow telecom service providers time to adapt their networks, said the Federal Institute of Telecommunications.
That means no more 01 before long-distance or 800-numbers, and no more 044 and 045 to call a mobile phone from a landline for local and long-distance calls, respectively. A call from abroad to a mobile number in Mexico will no longer need the number 1 before the area code.
