A specially crafted artisanal beer will be bottled to honor the 480th birthday of Yucatán’s so-called “second city.”

The Valladolid City Council is organizing a three-day celebration with music, exhibitions, and other cultural events.

And Mayor Alfredo Fernández also revealed that from Friday, May 26 to Sunday, May 28, Valladolid’s restaurants will add the commemorative beer to their menus.

Created by Yucatán’s Esmeralda Brewing, Valladolid 480 Tropical Lager will be available to the public for a limited time. The special edition will be on sale at the Zací cenote for the remainder of May.

Among the other culinary delights of Valladolid that will be served, attendees can enjoy delicious lomitos, or pork loin sandwiches; lime soup, and papadzules, which according to the beer’s label, is a perfect pairing.

The highlight is 7 p.m. Saturday, May 27, with music in Candelaria Park, followed by the “Xibalba” Folk Ballet.

The program will conclude with a Solemn Council Session held in front of the fountain in the Sisal neighborhood park, a performance by “Los Tachos” in the main park “Francisco Cantón Rosado,” and a cultural program in the courtyard of the former convent that concludes with the Yucalpetén Orchestra.
