That was not a mass Martian landing last night. It was a mass lantern launch.

Over 3,500 candle-powered lanterns lit the night sky yesterday in a benefit that promoted organ donation.

Sky lanterns, also called wish lanterns or fire balloons, have grown in popularity, used to ceremoniously present a wish or blessing to the universe.

People of all ages arrived at Coliseo Yucatan parking lot with the slogan “Que tu deseo llegue hasta el cielo,” or “Let your desire reach the heavens.”

The event sponsor, The Camila Association, encourages citizens to register as organ and tissue donors in the event of their death.
