Merida, Yucatan — When armed robbers took 5,000 pesos and an African Gray Parrot from a downtown hotel, the suspects were found, but the pet bird wasn’t.

Although the suspects were nabbed that night, they apparently acted quickly to enter Graybird, as he is known, on the black market.

Local media reported Sunday, however, that Graybird has been located in Chetumal, Quintana Roo, more than 276 miles / 444 kilometers away.

Five suspects have been arrested for their participation in the armed hold up at the Hotel Aventura, Calle 61 between 74 and 76 in the Santiago neighborood, on Feb. 12.

Graybird has been returned to his owner, police said.
