Tablets to be handed out to fifth-graders

The Ministry of Public Education (SEP) is sending tablets to fifth graders in Yucatán and 14 other states in a major investment in public education.

After accepting bids from several vendors, SEP contracted with consortium JP-IUSA, comprised of of Mexican businessman Carlos Peralta, for 969,000 tablets at a cost of $124 (USD) apiece.

Fifth-grader in the State of Mexico, Nayarit, Colima, Mexico City, Durango, Sinaloa, Tabasco, Sonora, Puebla, Tlaxcala, Quintana Roo, Zacatecas, Hidalgo and Chihuahua will also receive the electronic devices.
