Mérida, Yucatán — A silent auction and “Tapas Feast” raised 300,000 pesos for the Mérida English Library’s expansion plans.

“We far exceeded our expectations and the event brought us nearly halfway to our fundraising goal. Wow!” the library announced.

Auction items included anything from a homemade Indian dinner for six to a three-night stay at a beautiful apartment in Mexico City’s Roma district, round-trip airfare included.

Barely three months into their fundraising drive, MEL is already halfway to reaching its million-peso goal.

A concert raked in 30,000 pesos, and the MEL Board of Directors has pledged a combined 100,000 pesos in personal donations.

Fundraising continues on Thursday, March 22 with a popup tour of the La Ermita neighborhood. Tickets are 300 pesos, available only in advance at the library.
