Mérida, Yucatán — Star gazers are hoping for clear skies tonight, in time for the Perseid meteor shower.

The weather report calls for partly cloudy conditions, but that doesn’t mean the show won’t be visible.

Peak viewing time for the shower in Yucatán is between 10:30 Saturday night and 4:30 Sunday morning.

The “radiant point” of the meteors will be near the constellation Perseus, hence the name of the meteor shower.

The best way to view the meteor shower is to get away from city lights and into the countryside.

Astronomers are projecting a slightly higher-than-normal rate of 150 meteors per hour, but between clouds and a bright moon, observers face some challenges.

Another option is to tune into the Sky Live portal or Slooh, which will broadcast the phenomenon in real time.
