We have been daydreaming about travel for the past couple of years — as has just about everyone else.

Given the improving situation, we have decided that the time is right to launch our very first Yucatán Magazine tour. For this first outing, 30 or so folks will go on an adventure to Bacalar’s famous Lagoon of Seven Color, three stunning archaeological sites (Chacchobén, Dzibanché and Kinichná) and the Puerto Aventuras Hotel & Beach Club.

The Yucatán Magazine tour will be led by editor Carlos Rosado van der Gracht, who is a longtime tour organizer and author of the Archaeology Monday Series.

Recent research suggests that Dzibanché was one of the largest early Maya cities in Mesoamerica and may have been the first capital of the Kan, the first great Maya dynasty. Photo: Carlos Rosado van der Gracht / Yucatán Magazine

We set off from Mérida on June 24 and returning June 29.

In total, we will spend three nights in Bacalar at the Laguna Hotel (right on the water) and two nights at Puerto Aventuras Hotel & Beach Club.

We will visit three stunning archaeological sites, with the option of a fourth (Xelha) on Day 5.

All of the archaeological sites we will be visiting are fantastic for birding and spotting exotic animals, so bring along binoculars and a camera. Photo: Carlos Rosado van der Gracht / Yucatán Magazine

The price of the tour will be 12,500 pesos per person in a double room and 15,500 pesos for singles.

This includes five nights’ accommodation, transportation, professional English-speaking guides, breakfasts (in Puerto Aventuras), and entrances to all sites.

Space is limited and already filling up.
