Merida is in the running to be crowned “The Best City in the World.” Now, all the city needs is the votes.

Conde Nast Traveler’s 2019 Readers Choice Awards has an easy online form that allows voters to find their city, and rate it under categories such as architecture, restaurants and friendliness.

Voters will, however, have to register by providing a name and email address, or logging in through Facebook.

Tokyo was 2018’s international winner when more than 429,000 travelers voted. This is the New York-base magazine’s 32nd year conducting the survey.

Now the local government is lobbying voters on Twitter.

Merida has done well in polls before. Food & Travel Magazine readers twice called the city Mexico’s best gourmet destination.

And the “White City” has twice been designated a “Capital of Culture.”

But the Yucatecan capital has stiff competition. Hundreds of other cities around the world were also nominated. And travelers who prefer Mexico can choose from a long list: Mexico City, Morelia, Oaxaca, Veracruz, Acapulco, Monterrey, Puerto Vallarta, Puebla, Cancun, Tijuana, San Miguel de Allende, San Cristobal de las Casas, Zacatecas, Guanajuato, Guadalajara and Cuernavaca.

Voters can also rate airports, islands, hotels and cruise ships. All of Mexico could also pull off a victory in the “best country” category.

The poll is open until June 30.
