Flights Aboard Turkish Airlines to Mexico are Better Than Ever

Flying Turkish Airlines to Mexico from Istanbul is easier than ever. In fact, since the inauguration of flights aboard Turkiye’s national airline to Cancun and Mexico City in August 2019, the company has significantly upped the frequency of flights from three to 11 times a week. That, the airlines have reported, is the largest increase in flight frequency of any of its routes to North America.

This substantial increase in the Istanbul-Mexico City-Cancun-Istanbul route is a clear indication of the increasing popularity of the Yucatan Peninsula and the Riviera Maya as vacation destinations for travelers from Turkiye.

Instead of using just the one city as a stopover, the airline uses the same flight to service both Cancun and Mexico City, in effect operating the route like a triangle. And it’s an idea that certainly works, with passengers wanting to reach Cancun from Istanbul traveling via Mexico City. Conversely, those traveling from Mexico City to Istanbul will make the journey with a stop at Cancun, where refueling also takes place.

Turkish Airlines to Mexico is a Popular Route

The very first Turkish Airlines Mexico flight, TK181, had been in the works for quite some time before becoming a reality. It is still the only flight connecting Mexico to Istanbul via Cancun. As no legs of the journey overlap, the entire flight uses a single flight number, which has remained unchanged since 2019.

As for the type of aircraft you can expect to see upon boarding, Turkish Airlines took delivery of brand-new Boeing 787-9s to service the flight. And for those making the trip for work, the airline continues to offer a business class option.
