Daylight Saving Time is not on the same schedule as the U.S. and Canada.

This timely reminder comes as everyone in Yucatán and most of Mexico is reminded to set their clocks back one hour before heading to bed on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018.

DST here officially ends at 2 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, and we will be on Standard Time. We get that hour back on Sunday, April 7.

In Cancun and the rest of Quintana Roo state, pay this message no mind. You’re on Eastern Standard Time, and nothing changes. Same with a number of localities along the U.S. border.

Canada and the U.S. will catch up with Mexico at 2 a.m Sunday, Nov. 4, when those countries will put Daylight Saving Time to bed for 2018.

Mexico adopted Daylight Saving Time (referred to as the Horario de Verano, or “Summer Schedule”) in 1996 because of its increasing economic ties to the United States, where “fall back, spring ahead” is recited as a reminder as to which way to reset the clock.
