Uber Mexico has upped its rates as a result of rising prices of gasoline. The increases will be between 7.5 and 18.2 percent depending on the city.

Cancun riders get off relatively easy. Their rate increase is at the very bottom of the spectrum, at 7.5 precent. In Mérida, rates rose 9.2 percent.

The hardest hit of Uber Mexico’s 31 cities is Guadalajara, up 18.2 percent.

Uber rival Cabify followed suit with an overall 6 percent fare increase announced today.

Reuters reported today that Mexico’s December annual inflation rose at the fastest pace in two years, boosting chances that interest rates will rise again just as prices are expected to be further fanned by the hike in fuel costs.

Also, authorities have boosted electricity prices for certain sectors by 2.6 to 4.5 percent.
