UFO caught hovering over Mérida stirs debate on TikTok, Reddit
A shadowy object described as a black snowflake was spotted Saturday night hovering over Mérida. A video of it, posted on TikTok with a #UFO hashtag, was viewed 200,000 times in three days.
TikTok user @xixsteph captured a fairly sharp image of the mystery object. Indeed, it was snowflake-shaped and almost adorable, if only we knew what it was.
The video was posted to the /r/UFO subreddit, and online sleuths quickly marked it “likely identified.” The sighting coincided with a big balloon festival on the outskirts of the city. And some of those balloons were certainly adorable.
Commenters believed what they wanted to believe, however.
“This is by far the best-looking evidence I’ve seen. I believe this one,” said one follower on TikTok.
An open-minded Redditer remarked that “it’s definitely ominous looking. Hopefully, someone else filmed a second angle.”
