+ Google Map
Between Calle 90 and 81A, Calle 81, Centro
Mérida, Yucatán 97000 Mexico

Mérida’s main cemetery and one of the country’s oldest, Cementerio General first began operation in 1821, when the government decreed that cemeteries be established outside the city limits and they found this piece of hacienda property.

Many historic people are buried here, and its monuments are built in neoclassic, eclectic, Greek, Gothic or French styles, often from stone or granite brought from Europe by local wealthy families.

Tours of the cemetery are held on Wednesdays.

Its more than 25,000 vaults, ossuaries and mausoleums are part considered part of Yucatán’s architectural and cultural heritage.

Open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
