Parque de las Américas, possibly the most beloved and well-thought-out Mérida, occupies four city blocks in Colonia García Ginerés.
It was built during the government of Ernesto Novelo Torres between 1943 and 1945. It is divided into four different settings: an enormous semi-circular fountain with Neomaya architectural details; the Centro Cultural José Martí, representing a Puuc-style Maya dwelling; an acoustic shell facing an open-air theater and grand esplanade; and a fenced children’s zone with games and a skating rink.
