Vet services subsidized for pets in low-income homes

Mérida, Yucatán — City officials have introduced the southeast’s first Municipal Veterinary Module for Dogs and Cats to serve low-income families.

City Council has allocated 270,000 pesos to subsidize consulting services, medications and sterilization for city residents’ pets.

Even before the office was open, the city has been active addressing the needs of a city where stray dogs and cats remains a problem.

During a municipal spay and neuter program last month, 237 operations were completed. Officials expect to reach 400 more pets when they offer more sterilizations on Aug. 13 and 14. Since January, around 15,000 pets have been given their shots, as well.

 

The clinic is at No. 97, Calle 18, between 19 and 21, in  Col. Chichén Itzá. They are open 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Call 982-67-29 to schedule surgery.
