Family members from Solidaridad, Quintana Roo, were treated for burns when lightning struck a palapa that was sheltering them from a storm.

Six visitors, including three minors, came to El Cuyo, in Tizimín, for a beach trip, despite the bad weather. Presumably, when the afternoon rains began, they attempted to stay dry under a palapa. Lightning is a common occurrence this time of year in Yucatan.

The lightning strike caused burns to three adults, ages 46, 39 and 19. The minors were distraught but in good condition, according to local media.

Ambulances arrived and took them to the Colonia Yucatán health center, also in Tizimín, where two of the adults were admitted in stable condition.
