Yucatán coronavirus cases exceed 55,000 as daily infections rise
After four consecutive weeks of declines, coronavirus infections rose in Yucatán during the last seven days.
Another 1,730 cases were registered with the health ministry for an average of 247 daily infections. That is a 6% increase over the previous week, although still lower than a month ago.
Doctors reported 238 cases on Saturday for an accumulated total of 55,059 since March 2020. Daily fatalities ranged between 16 and 20 last week.
Saturday’s deaths comprised nine men and eight women between 36 and 82 years of age.
Hospitalizations in public facilities declined by 18 overnight to reach 247, but quarantines for mild cases rose by 37. That is a relief to medical professionals who saw nearly 350 hospital beds occupied by COVID-19 patients at the beginning of the month.
Hospitalizations and bed capacity at private hospitals were not disclosed.
Current patients range in age from a month to 107 years.
