Ciudad Campeche, Campeche — A rally in the fifth inning was lethal to the Leones’ rivals when Luis Juarez hit a two-run single leading to a 6-2 win over the Piratas de Campeche.

Saturday’s single by Juarez came in the midst of a five-run inning and gave the Leones a 4-2 lead. Later in the inning, Art Charles hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Jorge Flores.

The Leones tacked on another run in the eighth when Sebastian Valle hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Xavier Scruggs.

Right-hander Cesar Valdez (13-1) picked up the win after allowing two runs on seven hits over five innings. Opposing starter Alexis Candelario (0-3) took the loss after he allowed five runs and four hits over 4 1/3 innings.

With a series win assured, the Leones bounced back after losing the previous “Peninsular Classic” to Campeche at home.

The Leones will attempt to sweep the series at 7 p.m. today (Sunday), with starters Dustin Crenshaw (0-0, 0.00 ERA) and Frank Garces (4-8, 5.77 ERA). The game can be enjoyed live on SIPSE TV, La Comadre 98.5, and Facebook Live.
