Baseball fans on Monday crowded the Monumento a la Patria after the Leones de Yucatán won another national championship title.
The local team upset the Sultanes de Monterrey in their own stadium with a 6-1 victory.
It was the fifth Mexican Baseball League championship for the Leones.
Much of the credit went to Venezuelan batter José “Cafecito” Martínez, who helped the Leones come from behind with an RBI single in the fifth inning and a three-run homer in the seventh. In the ninth inning, a home run by Walter Ibarra was the icing on the cake.
It was a come-from-behind victory. The Leones arrived in Monterrey with the series down 2-3.
