Yucatan loses lead, falls to Tigers in 4-2 defeat

Cancun, Q. Roo — In an emotion-filled game Monday, the Tigres de Quintana Roo beat the Leones de Yucatan 4-2 during the Clasico de Fieras kickoff at Beto Ávila Stadium.

The Tigres came from behind to dramatically overcome Yucatan when Cancun’s Quincy Latimore hit a run-scoring single in the eighth inning for a 3-2 lead.

Yucatan filled the bases in the ninth inning but in the end could not reverse the board.

In the top of the first, Yucatan grabbed the lead on a single by Alex Valdez that scored Jorge Flores and Alex Liddi. Quintana Roo answered in the third inning when Reynaldo Rodriguez hit a two-run home run.

Luis Ivan Rodriguez (3-2) got the win with a scoreless inning in relief while Ronald Belisario (1-4) took the loss in the Mexican League game.

With the win, Quintana Roo improved to 3-1 against Yucatan this season.

The second duel of the series is today (Tuesday) at 8 pm; the Leones will send Yoanner Negrín to the mound to duel against Marlon Arias.

The game at the Beto Ávila Stadium will be broadcast live on La Comadre 98.5.
