Ciudad Campeche, Campeche — Art Charles homered and had two hits, driving in two, and Yoanner Negrin allowed just four hits over seven innings as the Leones de Yucatan topped the Piratas de Campeche 7-2 on Friday.

Negrin (11-4) became the fifth most successful pitcher in Leones history when he allowed one run while striking out eight and walking one to get his 52nd win for the team. The Cuban player was backed with good relief from Enrique Burgos and Andres Avila, in addition to a solid offensive that included three homers.

Up 1-0 in the sixth, Yucatan added to its lead when Charles hit a solo home run.

Campeche answered in the bottom of the inning when Henry Alejandro Rodriguez hit a solo home run to get within one.

Carlos De Leon (1-3) went six innings, allowing two runs and four hits to take the hard-luck loss. He also struck out eight and walked two.

The second “Peninsular Classic” clash is tonight (Saturday) at 7. Cesar Valdez (12-1, 2.32 ERA) and Alexis Candelario (0-2, 13.50 ERA) face off on the mound. The away game will be broadcast on SIPSE TV and La Comadre 98.5.
