Mérida, Yucatán — Some familiar names are yet again on the list of nominees for the Food & Travel awards, this time in three major categories.

Ku’uk’s Pedro Evia Puerto heads the “Best Chef” shortlist, competing with other well-known promoters of Mexico’s cuisine.

This was announced in a press conference headed by Chef Evia himself, accompanied by the president of the Tourism Business Coordinating Council, Jaime Solis Garza, and businessman Eduardo Rukos.

His two restaurants are also nominated; Ku’uk for “Best Restaurant in the Interior,” after winning that award in 2017. Its sister establishment, Piñuela, is up for “Best Hotel Restaurant.” Piñuela opened off the new Hotel Mérida’s lobby nearly a year ago. This is Piñuela’s first time on the list of nominees.

Also in the category of “Best Destination” is the capital city itself: Mérida.

Readers will determine the winners, and can vote here until Saturday. Oct. 20.

The Yucatecan community is encouraged to vote, so that the state once again can stand out among the most select in the world of tourism service providers.

Food & Travel magazine’s readers, “the true travelers and foodies,” named Ku’uk the best restaurant in the country’s interior. The award previously went to another Mérida restaurant, Rosas y Xocolate. Also last year, the state of Yucatán won for “Best Destination.”
