2nd Uber driver arrested, car towed, for serving airport

Mérida, Yucatán — For the second time in less than a week, an Uber driver has been caught violating the law by picking up and dropping off passengers at the Mérida airport.
Only approved taxis are allowed to pick up fares at the Manuel Crescencio Rejón International Airport.
Federal Police said the driver violated Article 8 Section I of the Federal Transportation Act late Thursday afternoon. The driver was arrested and his 2017 Peugeot was towed.
The fine for breaching the federal provision amounts to up to 500 days of minimum wage, about 40,000 pesos.

Just last Monday, an Uber driver was fined by the Federal Police while attempting to respond to a ride request at the same terminal. His car was also towed away.
Authorities have been providing surveillance at the airport since Uber was declared a “pirate” operation earlier this month for not complying with state regulations.
