Yucatán Railroad Museum

Tue., May 7 @ 7:07 pm

Inaugurated on Nov. 1, 2002 to commemorate 100 years of the Ferrocarriles de Yucatán company, the Museo de los Ferrocarriles de Yucatán, or the Yucatán Railroad Museum preserves the culture and artistry of historic trains.

The Museum, located on Calle 43 between 46 and 48, has today 43 railway cars of all types; many of them can be entered and explored. One of its oldest exhibit is a 1903 steam locomotive. There is also a luxury coach, “Coche Rendón Peniche,” dating to 1890. It has appeared in two films, “La Guerra de Castas” and “Peregrina.” Another is a retired car from Disneyland.

The museum is completely interactive. There is no “do not touch” policy here, as in other museums.

Despite its interesting inventory, very few people visit the museum, which is very low-key.

Entry is 20 pesos for adults and 10 pesos for children. Completely outdoors, the museum is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily.
