Mérida, Yucatán — The city’s first new department store in more than a few years is just a few weeks away.
Foromerida was the first to report that the department store H&M is opening Sept. 21.
The two-story retailer is in the Galerias Mérida, which is known for its Liverpool anchor. It will be open Monday-Sunday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The Galerias website makes no mention of its new anchor store.
H & M, which is short for Hennes & Mauritz AB, is a Swedish company with fashions for price-conscious shoppers. With over 4,500 stores, it’s the world’s second-largest global clothing retailer. In Mexico, other branches include Playa del Carmen, Veracruz, Puebla, Guadalajara, León and Querétaro. In addition to Mexico, the chain has a presence in Chile, Peru and Puerto Rico, where it landed a just over a year ago.
Galerias Mérida opened its doors in 2007 and currently has 90 tenants, including boutique shops, kiosks, restaurants, salons, a gym and a movie theater.
