A queer celebration to help the Oasis shelter

To support the Oasis San Juan de Dios, a civil association that serves people living with HIV, Luis Mont and Kimmy Bomba will perform a queer culture show called Puro Pop tonight (Thursday) at the Dante Cultural Center.

The event begins at 9 p.m., with a live band and drag acts, and deejays playing favorites by Alejandra Guzmán, Paulina Rubio, Gloria Trevi, OV7 and Mecano.

Mont commented in an interview that the Oasis San Juan de Dios is a space that supports people with HIV and AIDS with food, shelter, clothing and medicine. But since donations have fallen short, this event is meant to revive awareness of the organization.

It leads to Saturday’s pride march in Merida, an annual LGBTQ celebration to promote sexual diversity. It also occurs during Pride month, which in most countries including Mexico is June.

“Queer culture is what represents us as a community,” he commented. This is the first time that they are performing Puro Pop and hope to continue doing so to support the association.

The donation for the show is 160 pesos. For more information and reservations, call 999-926-4566/999-927-7441 or purchase tickets up to the day of the event at the ticket office.
