MID or SFO? The morning fog had us wondering where we were.

Sunday morning in Mérida looked more like the beginning of a foggy day in San Francisco, or mid-century London.

Drivers, especially to the north, has their headlights on as they pushed through the neblina or niebla, as it’s called here.

Not that every morning in Yucatán is clear blue skies. But foggy mornings here are notable enough to fill Instagram and Facebook accounts with dreamy photos of Yucatán in the mist.

By 9:30, the sun broke through to break most of it up, in time for Biciruta and maybe a beach outing.

But keep an eye on the weather forecast. Weather.com predicts showers likely at 3 until around 9. Weatherbug.com is a little more optimistic, giving just a 30% chance of rain this afternoon. AccuWeather thinks there is a half-and-half chance of thunderstorms, and only at 5 p.m.

Afternoon thundershowers are predicted, in fact, for the next 10 days — typical for the rainy season in Yucatán.
