Mérida, Yucatán — A young entrepreneur in Fraccionamiento del Parque is opening a new restaurant, and it will be going to the dogs as soon as it opens in June.
Since he was 10 years old, Rashid Cortázar Alcocer has been dedicated to training dogs. Today, at 20, has a canine restaurant in the works. Yes, the Peek Food Restaurant will have a special menu and dining area for dogs.
According to the entrepreneur, dishes offered pets follow a raw-foods diet under a Biologically Appropriate Raw Food diet, which typically consists of raw meaty bones, fruit and raw vegetables, eggs, organ meats, rather than commercial foods or homemade food cooked with supplements.
“The idea came to spend quality time with our friends the dogs, and what better place to do it than a restaurant,” Rashid said. “Eating with my dog is important.”
He also noted that many people look for options to pass the time, but very few sites allow access to dogs.
Open from Thursday to Sunday, Peek Food will be able to accommodate 50 people and 12 pets, which will be served at small tables and special containers. There will a terrace for both people and their pets and a people-only room. Only sociable dogs free of ticks and fleas will be allowed in.
Is this a trend? The restaurant closely follows the opening of Peek Park, a playspace for dogs on the other side of town. The two initiatives are not connected, although both borrow on the Mayan word for dogs.
