Mérida, Yucatán — One month before the beginning of influenza season, 45 people in Yucatán are already being treated for the flu.

One unidentified flu victim in Yucatán has died, health authorities reported.

Moreover, a spike in flu cases is expected when flu season begins at the end of the month.

Vaccinations are recommended, but shots are not yet adjusted to meet the prevalent strain. The PrevenStar Vaccination Center in Altabrisa will offer the updated vaccine at the end of this month. Vaccination shots will cost between 250 and 400 pesos.

The state Ministry of Health will begin its vaccination campaign against seasonal influenza at the end of October, when the five-month season will begin to peak.

Across the country, 14 influenza deaths were recorded so far this year: four in Tabasco, three in Quintana Roo, two in both Veracruz and Sonora, and one each in Yucatán, Chiapas and Jalisco.
