Interjet flight cancelations continue; consumer agency takes names and numbers

Interjet dispute with crew drags on, stranding over 4,000 customers

Mexico’s Interjet airline has canceled dozens of flights between March 25 and 30 at the International Airport of Mexico City, affecting approximately 4,722 customers, the Federal Consumer Attorney (Profeco) confirmed.

Cancellations continued into Sunday when Interjet halted four flights to Tijuana, three to Cancun, two to Guadalajara and one each to Merida, Puerto Vallarta, Monterrey, Chihuahua, Mazatlan, Villahermosa, Havana, Cuba and León.

So far, Interjet has not issued an official statement explaining the reason for the cancelations, but local media reported an ongoing dispute between management and crew over working conditions.

The airline has reportedly offered refunds or an alternate flight, but federal law entitles customers to more than that.

According to article 47 of the Civil Aviation Law, the airline can also be responsible costs associated with the inconvenience, such as meals and overnight accommodations.

Likewise, Profeco invited travelers to report complaints at various Profeco airport offices. Mexico City’s desk is open daily, from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. A hotline, 01-800-468-8722, is open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Moreover, customers can visit www.telefonodelconsumidor.gob.mx or text 558078-0344 or 558078-0485 with their full name, phone number, email address and reservation code.

Profeco can also be reached on Twitter @AtencionProfeco and on Facebook at ProfecoOficial.
