Join us to explore the lesser-visited treasures of the Puuc

The Puuc region is full of hundreds of archaeological sites, big and small, but the vast majority of visitors to this area only ever experience Uxmal

The focus of this expedition on Thursday, Oct, 24, 2024 is to discover the wonders of some lesser-visited Maya Puuc sites, including seldom visited Chacmultún in the municipality of Tekax, as well as Labná and Sayil.

Aside from its famous arch, Labná is also notable for its Palacio, which is one of the longest contiguous structures in the Puuc region at approximately 120 meters (393.7 feet) in length. Sayil, which is even larger, boasts several stunning buildings, including the structure known as El Mirador, which is built on a four-meter platform and topped with a chamber divided into two rooms and heightened by a crest or roof comb.

Though the base of El Mirador remains unrestored, it would have featured at least one large staircase covered in stucco and likely painted in vibrant colors. Photo: Carlos Rosado van der Gracht / Yucatán Magazine

For 2000 pesos, the tour includes all transportation, tickets, lunch at a Yucatecan restaurant, bottled water along the way, and the guiding services of Yucatán Magazine Senior Editor Carlos Rosado van der Gracht — a certified INAH guide and Ph.D. candidate in the field of Heritage Studies.
