Kiteboard competition captivates Sisal

With some excellent weather conditions, the Sisal Kite Summer Fest 2016 kicked off this weekend.
More than 30 competitors brought their kiteboards from Quintana Roo, Campeche, Nayarit, Jalisco, Tabasco, Baja California Sur and Yucatán; and from Brazil, Italy and Venezuela.

The freestyle open featured 14 athletes; semifinalists facing off today are Luis Diego of Baja California Sur; Angel Rojas of Tabasco; Erick Anderson of Brazil and Miguel Tamayo of Quintana Roo. A separate speed competition will challenge 30 participants to a race in pro and amateur categories.

The opening ceremony was attended by the secretary of the Mexican Association of Kitesurfing, Agustin Tapia; the manager of Ensisal Tours, Juan Carlos Cabeza; Port Captain Cmdte. Miguel Chablé; Secretary of the Police Station, Jorge Yama; the Commissioner of Sisal, Feliz Puc Uc; state Tourism Secretary Saul Ancona; Fernando Coronado of the Yucatecan Association of Kitesurfing, Angel Rojas and his secretary Juan Cruz and Alejandro Escalante Cisneros, organizer of the event.

If conditions allow today, the festival will conclude at 5 p.m. today with a competition to see who performs the highest jump.
