Smoke from a kitchen fryer sent customers and workers to the La Isla parking lot on Thursday.
The mishap activated fire alarms and forced an evacuation at the new Liverpool department store at the recently opened complex. La Isla opened in April, north of the Periférico, and the anchor store opened weeks later.
A strong burning smell was reported shortly after 4 p.m. when the alarm was triggered.
In a matter of minutes, both clients and staff were evacuated and waited for firefighters from the state Ministry of Public Security.
