A 24-year-old Cholul man turned away by O’Horán Hospital died at the Merida medical facility’s gates, Diario de Yucatan reported.

The unnamed man, who relied on an oxygen tank, was transported to O’Horán by an SSP ambulance when he exhibited difficulty breathing. The intake desk, suspecting a coronavirus infection, referred him to the COVID-19 ward, which rejected him because they were at capacity.

While waiting an hour to be admitted, his tank ran out of oxygen and he died outside the hospital doors, Diario reported.

Shortly afterward, O’Horán employees came outside to speak to the man’s family, offering to pass the body on to authorities who could certify his death. Family members told Diario that the official then withdrew without comment.
