Mérida, but not the Caribbean resorts, named in Airbnb survey

Puerto Escondido, La Paz, and Mérida are among Mexico’s top trending travel destinations for US travelers right now, according to an Airbnb survey.

Mérida got on that list despite an overall shift toward the Pacific coast and Baja. Nowhere on the Airbnb survey do any of Mexico’s Caribbean hotspots appear.

For travelers from within Mexico, Sisal is in the top 10. Mazatlan, on the Pacific, is first. Crucecita, Oaxaca; Leon, Guanajuato; San Carlos New Guaymas, Sonora; Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca; Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur; Mexicali, Baja California; Mazamitla, Jalisco; and Kino Bay, Sonora are also on the list.

Nine out of 10 active guests on Airbnb’s platform are considering traveling this summer and most will go with family.

The survey also found that nine out of 10 guests have, at least occasionally, flexible dates for their upcoming trips and are seeking “adventure.”
